Venice, Los Angeles

Venice is a beachfront neighborhood on the Westside of Los Angeles, California, United States. It is known for its canals, beaches and circus-like Ocean Front Walk, a two-and-a-half-mile pedestrian-only promenade that features performers, fortune-tellers, artists, and vendors.

What can you do in Venice Beach?
- You can wear whatever you like, no matter how weird; nobody will judge you. However weird you will be, you won't impress anyone.
- You can sing and dance, you'll get some smiles if you're bad at it or applause if you know what you're doing.
- You can recognize the streets where the Californication series was produced.
- You can give up all prejudice.

Why visit?
To get a new taste of Los Angeles, even when you thought you saw enough. You'll meet cool people: artists, fitness addicts, acrobats, beggars etc.

Where to go?
Venice Boardwalk
Check out the diversity, lots of people showing off, the artists on the street and souvenir shops.
Spend 10-20 minutes at the skate-park by the beach, you might see some semi-pro skaters there.
If you're in the mood go to muscle beach, you don't need fitness equipment, jeans are ok too.

Venice Canals
A romantic zone, with expensive housing, this is the area that resembles the European city of Venice.
It's nice to have a walk and see the difference in attitude between people there and in the Venice Beach area.

The Beach/Ocean
It's a great place if you want to learn or practice surfing. Good waves and boards to rent everywhere.
If you want a personal trainer it's about 40$/hour. If you think you're getting good at surfing you can try higher waves in  Huntington Beach or Oceanside.

  1. Venice is a wild place...haven't been there in a long time. Did you make it farther south to San Diego? SD is one of my favorite big cities in California. If you're interested, check out the video I did: http://www.MikesRoadTrip.com/san-diego
