How to visit Nepal and Bhutan

First of all you should know that Nepal is an extraordinary destination, and Bhutan is one of the few remaining places on the planet that choose to stay isolated, in order to preserve their old way of live in a modern world.

When to visit.
Spring and Autumn are perfect. October is a month with excellent weather, sunny but not too hot. Try not to go in the summer when the monsoon arrives and rain pours on the slopes of the Himalayas. The dry season is also present in the winter months but you should expect a cold weather and budget hotels don't have proper heating.

How to get there
Depends on where do you live, but you will probably get on the plane to Kathmandu. You should check out the Qatar Airways flights transiting Doha for some fair deals. Use our flight search engine to check out your options here: Zubi Travel Booking Search.

Internal Transport
In Bhutan it's simple: transport is included in the Tourist Tariff issued by the Tourism Council of Bhutan.
In Nepal, you're on your own. In the city you can get a rickshaw or a taxi. There is no fixed fare so be prepared to negotiate.
If you want to travel across towns there are local and tourist buses, try to get on a tourist bus for higher comfort and a safer journey.

Money
In Bhutan it's a bit hard to find and ATM, there are some exchange offices that practice the same rate.
In Nepal there are some ATM, so you'll be able to withdraw Nepalese rupees from your credit or debit card.

  1. Cool! I think I would visit Bhutan first, I'm just curious about how Bhutanese manage to isolate themselves from the influence of the outside. But it would also make me happy to visit Nepal where the highest peak on earth lies, it would really be an unforgettable experience.

  2. That looks like a serious populated area in Kathmandu overlooking the city. Nice write-up, thanks for sharing!
